Colon Cleansing To Rev Up Your Detox

September 16th, 2009

colon2 So how have you all been going with the idea of detoxing? Have you planned or better still, started one?  It’s a good thing to do, I just did a mini fast – great. As we said in the previous article, detoxing allows your body to clear out the results of past ‘indiscretions’. Detoxing gives your system the opportunity to rest in order to help ‘clear out the stuck bits’. In our first article “Why Detox” we did not discuss any strategies to help your detox and move the ‘stuck bits’.

So now that we opened up the discussion of detoxing, we might as well develop it a bit further. There are a number of methods that can enhance a detox and or be used as stand alone strategies to maintain digestive health on a regular basis – we are referring to colon cleansing.  There are two main ways to colon cleanse: using herbal medicines or supplements or the more ‘physical’ method of colon hydrotherapy.  Before we discuss either method I want to start with a reminder - food is medicine.  Eat well and you will successfully avoid the majority of lifestyle related health problems.  And it is never too late, in fact a change of diet will often help heal chronic health problems.

There are a variety of adjunct therapies that can assist with detoxing and in my opinion the method that gives the most immediate results is colon hydrotherapy or irrigation.  I will mention the other methods for your reference.  One more thing, my assumption is that quite a few readers will be dealing with constipation or stools that are difficult to evacuate/pass.  Chronic diarrhea is an indicator of a range of problems too including parasites or highly impacted feces.  Pay as much attention to loose stools as constipation.

Did you know current research is finally supporting what natural healers have known ‘forever‘? Gut function and digestive health play a fundamental role in all kinds of health problems from autism to arthritis to colon cancer, rectal cancer to auto immune diseases and allergies.  It pays to pay your gut and colon some attention.

Resveratrol and Cancer

September 9th, 2009

resveratrol - 60 Minutes Cancer continues to rise so lets use our resources differently to meet and counter act it. There are interesting outcomes related to cancer from the recent Resveratrol studies. No doubt you have seen the 60 Minutes footage; those encouraging images of Resveratrol fed mice having greater stamina than their non Resveratrol laced buddies. Just in case you haven’t click here view the 60 Minutes footage (you need to scroll down the page).

Having viewed the footage you have no doubt reached the same conclusion as us; the therapeutic claims from human trials in diabetes looks great and now human trials in treating cancer are very encouraging. This coupled with the purchase of the Sirtris start up company for almost 3/4 of a billion US dollars indicates these researchers are onto something big. Or are they?

What is Resveratrol?

July 3rd, 2009

Red WineHi There! Well we just had to kick off our new blog site with an article on Resveratrol given the recent media flurry. Confession, we are in our mid forties with young children (11 yrs and under) so we are extremely interested in the claims regarding Resveratrol and its benefits to health, aging and more importantly healthy living.  We had the same kinds of questions as everyone else: ‘what is Resveratrol‘? what are the benefits and are the claims real? Well we did some basic research and have come up with enough positive information to decide that for us, its worth a trial and that it will deliver on our goal of healthy living.  Have a read and make up your own mind. Depending on the time of day you are reading this you may want to avail yourself with a glass of your favorite tipple – preferably red :-)

Resveratrol is a polyphenol with important anti inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Resveratrol is produced when plants are under attack from bacteria or fungi. It is naturally occurring and found in the skins of red grapes, peanuts and some of other berries – and is present in red wine.  Researchers began to correlate the presence of Resveratrol with the so called ‘French paradox’ i.e. how could the French (on the whole) who consume a diet so much higher in fats than in most other countries, have such an unexpectedly low incidence of heart disease? Many researchers concluded the lower levels of heart disease among the French are due to regular consumption of red wine. Resveratrol has mild has anti-coagulating effects, which lessens the stress on the heart. It is also high in antioxidants which clean up the free radicals floating around in our blood from years of stress and living in polluted cities and eating food grown with pesticides etc. The majority of health researchers now concur free radicals are the cause of most of our modern degenerative diseases. So, the combination of observations listed above has lead man scientists, doctors and wine lovers to believe/declare that drinking moderate amounts of red wine may help fight cancer and increase overall health. So the benefits of red wine i.e. the side effects of Resveratrol are just great!
