EFT Freedom or Tapping to Freedom

I just had to write this post – what a few days/daze it’s been. Since returning to Sydney in 2009 I started using EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique or tapping) again. It’s a technique I learned and discarded some years back because (at the time) it didn’t fit with who I was or what I was doing. Then, as is often the case  when one rediscovers something, I came to it through ‘desperation’. You see I was ‘stuck’ unable to shift a problem with one of our kids so I decided to try EFT; why not? I’d had run out of options and it was 3:00am – where do you find new options at that hour of the morning? Lo and behold, we had a breakthrough. I began to ask myself – had the other things kicked in? Was it luck? What really happened? So  in pursuit of clarity, I decided to experiment on myself and of course the family :-) I was so pleased with the outcomes I have (re) introduced EFT into clinic.

And while am happily use it in clinic, I remained dissatisfied with the standard explanation. I know EFT works, I use it. I never use anything in clinic I have not already had success with – so I know it works. And Aussies are a cynical bunch. As a cultural group, we seem to want (need even…) a ‘plausible’ or rational explanation for things (like either of those terms are straight forward). And descriptions like emotional acupuncture leave most Aussies shaking their heads…especially when you ask them to ‘tap themselves’ and say things like I honour and accept myself…Finally, I have some new ways of explaining why EFT works and the explanation should satisfy even the most sceptical person because it’s based on research.

Vision Board – Can You Create Your Future On A Board?

You have either seen or heard of the movie phenomenon “The Secret”. You know that vision boards were discussed extensively in the film. Some people love them while others deride those who use them as builders of “castles in the air”. I have been grappling with this myself in my own life. I created a vision board and ‘nothing happened’ until I realised I think I may have been sabotaging it…more on that later. So I decided to do some thinking and clarify the subject for myself. I was surprised by what I learned so I decided to share it with you. But what I learned is more than one article can handle, so I have decided to write a series of posts on the subject. At the very least writing a series of posts will help me solidify the ideas for my own use – and apply them I will because this is amazing technology.

So, in this short series of articles I want to relocate the discussion about vision boards from where lots of folks put it i.e. the ‘whacky’ and place it where it belongs; into ‘business as usual’. Read on and discover how vision boards (or at the very least the principles behind vision boards) are an integral part of how we have developed/structured our lives for a millennia.

Long time! I hope this well note finds you and yours well.

Firstly, I need to apologise for disappearing from the blog. Let me explain. I’ve been working intensively creating the program “Living Calm” which is, at its simplest, a ‘stress management’ program, and it is SO much more than that. Living calm takes a totally different approach to stress and living calm than any other program I’ve seen – and I’ve seen a few.

You know I NEVER intended to write Living Calm. What happened was, I was working on a whole other program when I was asked to give a talk at an expo. The talk was on stress and natural medicine. I decided to go back to the literature to check for any changes in stress theory since I learned about it some 25 years ago. Well, that decision turned my life upside down – it literally changed EVERYTHING. Long story short, not only did I see my own health story described in a theory I didn’t know existed I also LEARNED that what I’d been ‘taught’ about stress is just one part of a MUCH larger picture, a picture that has huge ramifications for us all. On the basis of this ‘new’ knowledge I concluded that to really make a difference in our lives i.e. to live better/calmer, we need to understand stress differently to how we currently do. I was shocked to learn that no one is really talking about stress the way the Doctor who discovered it 80+ years ago did, which I believe, is a huge disservice to us all. I decided I had to step up. And so 12+ months later here I am with a lot of information (about an issue I never intended to research) and a new program (I never intended to write)…huh?…you think you’re confused…
